About the book

Conan comes to Keshan seeking the jewels known as the Teeth of Gwahlur. The quest leads him to Alkmeenon, a deserted city whose sacred oracle influences decisions far beyond its walls. Other adventurers also understand the political and material value of that authority, and Conan soon discovers that an apparently supernatural encounter may involve very human manipulation. Hidden chambers, competing treasure seekers, and the vulnerability of a woman drawn into the deception complicate his pursuit. Yet exposing one trick does not make the city's deeper dangers harmless. The story brings together avarice, religious imposture, and physical peril, testing how far a man intent on riches will let that purpose govern his actions.
